2012: how will: Astroid vs Earth turn out?

Hey there, this is my new Blog about 2012. Personally i don't believe that the world is coming to an end sometime in 2012. I am currently studying torque in my AP physics class and someone brought up the whole 2012 thing today.

I guess one of the major beliefs is that a giant meteor(or was it an asteroid?) is suppose to hit the earth. There are many flaws with this theory killing off all of human life.

*small objects usually burn up when they enter the upper atmosphere

*Space is a giant "space" and the earth is relatively small in comparison, making it an extremely small target to hit.

*An object that hits the earth would have to be relatively massive in order cause any difference in the earth's position or rotation.

*The chances that the object would hit earth perpendicular to the surface(head on instead of a glancing blow) are slim to nil

*If it's a glancing blow, only a portion of the force would be directed to the center of the mass(the part that would cause the offset in the position of the earth's rotation)

*the rest of the force would be applied to the earth's rotation which would increase or decrease the centrifugal force, causing our weight(Mass x Gravitational acceleration, not mass) to either increase or decrease

Anyway, if you have anything to add, or any objections, please post your thoughts and include your evidence.
